Genesis Biologica is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing knowledge across the full breadth of the biological sciences. The journal was founded on the conviction that fundamental discovery and applied innovation are inseparable — that understanding life, from its molecular foundations to its ecological dimensions, requires rigorous science conducted with integrity and communicated without barriers.

Genesis Biologica publishes original research and authoritative reviews spanning the contemporary landscape of the biological sciences, with particular emphasis on studies that advance mechanistic understanding, methodological innovation, and interdisciplinary integration.
The journal covers a broad continuum of biological enquiry, from the molecular and cellular level — encompassing cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, genetics, and genomics — to the organismal and ecological scale, including developmental biology, evolutionary biology, ecology, and environmental biology. Research in microbiology, immunology, neurobiology, cancer biology, and plant biology is equally central to the journal's scope. Genesis Biologica also provides a dedicated platform for emerging fields that are reshaping modern biology: systems biology, bioinformatics, and computational approaches that illuminate the complexity of living systems; nanotechnology and nanomedicine as applied to biological challenges; and phytomedicine bridging plant science with therapeutic application.
The journal welcomes research articles, review articles, short communications, technical notes, case studies, letters to the editor, and commentaries. Submissions may be experimental, computational, translational, or theoretical in nature. Studies that forge meaningful connections between disciplines, employ innovative methodologies, or address questions with broader biomedical or environmental relevance are especially encouraged. The scope is intentionally designed to accommodate the evolving frontiers of biological research.
All research content published in Genesis Biologica is peer reviewed.
Model. Double-anonymous. Authors do not know the identity of reviewers, and reviewers do not know the identity of authors. Submissions are made as two files — an anonymised manuscript and a separate title page — and the platform runs an automated anonymity check before a manuscript is released to reviewers.
Reviewers per manuscript. No manuscript is accepted on fewer than two independent external reviews. Reviewers are subject experts who are not members of the journal's editorial staff and who have no conflict of interest with the work.
Process. Submissions pass a formatting and scope check, plagiarism and AI-content screening, and a technical compliance check before a handling editor is assigned. The handling editor invites reviewers, collects reports, and makes a recommendation. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief.
Editorial submissions. Manuscripts authored by editors or editorial board members are handled by an independent editor with no access to the decision record, and the editor-author takes no part in any stage of the assessment.
What is not peer reviewed. Editorials, Letters to the Editor, Commentaries and Corrections are assessed editorially rather than by external peer review, and are labelled as such in the article metadata so that indexing services classify them correctly.

Genesis Biologica follows the core practices set out by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding authorship, plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, image integrity, duplicate or redundant publication, and conflicts of interest. All submissions are screened using industry-standard similarity-detection software. Confirmed misconduct may result in rejection, correction, or retraction of published work, investigated in line with COPE guidelines and, where appropriate, referred to the authors' institution(s). Authorship is limited to those who made a substantial contribution to the work, and every author's contribution is recorded using the CRediT taxonomy; guest, gift and ghost authorship are treated as misconduct. Genesis Biologica is a fully open access journal. Every article is free to read from the moment of publication — no embargo, no subscription, no paywall and no registration requirement of any kind. Authors retain copyright of their published work.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Where a funder requires a different licence, authors may request CC BY 4.0 at submission at no additional charge.
Article Processing Charge. The APC is waived in full for every manuscript submitted on or before 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027 an accepted manuscript carries a single charge of £45 / €55 / US$65 / ₹6,000, billed in the currency appropriate to the corresponding author's location. The date of submission determines whether a charge applies, so a manuscript submitted in 2026 and accepted in 2027 remains free. There is no submission fee, no page charge, no colour figure charge and no charge for supplementary material. The charge falls due only after acceptance, and payment status is never disclosed to editors or reviewers. See the fees policy and the Author Guidelines for details.
